Eugene Edward "Gene" Born, 73, a resident of River Park since 1946, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 12, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Gene was a retired tool and die designer for several South Bend, Ind., companies for many years. He was born May 8, 1929, in South Bend, to Edward Ludwig and Marie (Stanton) Born, who preceded him in death.

He was married to Rose Willand, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Rose Marie Ann Born of Florida; a sister, Luella York of Tulsa, Okla.; and by a brother, Keith L. Born of Warrenton, Va. Gene was a member of VFW Post 360, Mishawaka, Ind., the German-American Club, and was a World War II Army veteran.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. The HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, 289-1000, is in charge of arrangements.
