Louis F. Borrelli, 75, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., died after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Dec. 11, in his residence.

 

He had been a resident of Fort Myers Beach since 1985 coming from South Bend, Ind. He was a member of the Church of the Ascension. At the age of 18, Louis joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Otter and the USS Hopping, both destroyer escorts during World War II. After the war, Louis was a truck driver and a member of Local 364 of the Teamsters.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty A. Borrelli of Fort Myers Beach; four children, Betsy (Richard) Wable of South Bend, Thomas Borrelli of Manitou Springs, Colo., Tory Pal of Bolinas, Calif., and Lisa (David) Jensen of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Arthur Borrelli of Pine Island, Fla. and John Borrelli of Pacheco, Calif.; a sister, Antoinette Rynearson of Farmington, Ill.; and by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Borrelli.

 

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15, in the Church of the Ascension with Rev. Bob Murphy officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Louis's name be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Center, Fort Myers, FL 33908. Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Fort Myers, is handling arrangements.
