Irvin T. Bowers

SOUTH BEND - Irvin T. Bowers, 92, of Pasadena Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Bowers was born on Sept. 7, 1905, in Mishawaka, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. On Sept. 3, 1927, he married Helen F. McCombs, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past September and both were so proud of the deep love they shared together. Mr. Bowers is survived by two daughters, Marjorie A. Kinner and Frances E. Holder, both of South Bend; a son, Paul E. Bowers of South Bend; eight loving grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Yohn of Granger, Ind.; and by a brother, Carl Bowers of Wauwaka, Wis. Mr. Bowers retired from the UnRiroyal Corporation in Mishawaka in 1967 after 41 years of service. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers were former owners of Bowers Hay Ride Services for 22 years. He was a member of the Uniroyal Management Club. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers were the oldest members of the Southlawn United Methodist Church, witnessing the groundbreaking of the church.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road and Indiana 23. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home, with Pastor Jonathan Singleton officiating. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to the Southlawn United Methodist Church.
