Lester Oscar Byron Bowman, 88, of West Battell Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital.

Lester was born in Chesterton, Ind., on Oct. 27, 1910, and had lived in this area since 1935. Lester was formerly employed as an electrician at Oliver Plow Works, and was a union organizer at South Bend Lathe. He was also in business at The Home Service Company, South Bend, Ind., for 39 years. Lester was also active in the YMCA Indian Guides.

On Aug. 3, 1935, in South Bend, Lester married Anna Meszaros, who survives.

He is also survived by three daughters, Patricia A. Bowman of Mishawaka, Kathleen M. Parker of Livingston, Texas, and Barbara L. Kiewitt of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Donald M., Lester J., and David E., all of South Bend; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth A., in 1972; and by a grandson, Chris Byron McIntosh, in 1965.

Services will be at 6 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, Ind.

Friends may call two hours prior to services. Private burial will take place on Tuesday.
