SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE – June 16, 2002

William J. Boyce

Feb. 23, 1964 - June 11, 2002

Mr. William Joseph Boyce, 38, affectionately known as "Bill," who lived on Bergan Street, South Bend, Ind., was taken from our midst on Tuesday, June 11, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

In Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 23, 1964, Bill was born to his parents, Joseph and Willie (Harris) Boyce. As a young child, Bill, along with his parents, relocated to South Bend in 1969, coming from Chicago. He was educated in the South Bend Community Public School System, graduating from LaSalle High School.

Growing up in a kitchen-loving, close-knit family with his parents, both accomplished chefs, Bill developed a love for creative cooking. In November 2001 Bill, along with his parents, his brother and nephew opened J&W Taste of New Orleans Restaurant, specializing in Cajun food. As a restaurant manager, Bill worked long days to make the business a success. "And I don't get tired," Bill would say. "I look forward to it." Bill's plans were to grow bigger and bigger and bigger.

His loving and devoted surviving family includes his spouse, Cheryl; three daughters, Ashley Boyce and Veronica Boyce, both of South Bend, and Raven Boyce of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Michael Boyce; his parents, Joseph and Willie Boyce; one grandson, Michael Boyce Jr.; a sister, Rhonda Boyce (Anthony) Brown; and three brothers, Paul Boyce, Rickey Boyce and Joseph (Denay) Boyce, all of South Bend; along with other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Boyce will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, in Emmanuel Church of Deliverance, with Apostle Willie O. Coates officiating. Friends may call in the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
