Sister Mary Helen Boyle

Sister Mary Helen Boyle (Sister M. Margaret Charles), 92, died on Saturday, Aug. 12, in Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind.

Sister Mary Helen was born on Aug. 23, 1907, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Charles I. Boyle and Margaret Egan Boyle. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1928, made her first profession in 1931 and her final profession in 1934.

Sister taught in elementary schools from 1928 to 1950 when she moved into secondary education. Sister taught in the Washington, D.C., area and in 1950 began teaching in high school in Washington, D.C., Riverside, N.J., and Alexandria, Va. There was a move to Austin, Texas, where she taught in high school and also taught CCD. In 1975 Sister left active teaching and was in charge of the audio-visual library of the diocese in Austin. Moving to Kensington, Md., Sister was administrative assistant at the Academy of Holy Cross from 1978 until 1984. She then made a move to pastoral ministry with the Nora, Va., community in 1984, and then Sister returned to the Academy of Holy Cross where she held a number of positions, including receptionist and archivist. In 1994 Sister Mary Helen returned to Saint Mary's Lourdes Convent to participate in the Apostolate of Prayer. From Lourdes Convent Sister moved to Saint Mary's Convent, and remained there as a participant in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

Sister Mary Helen is survived by her sister, Mrs. Margaret Brechin of Baltimore, Md.; a sister-in-law, Angela Boyle of Queen Anne, Md.; and brothers, J. Edward Boyle of Bethesda, Md., and Paul Boyle of New Orleans, La.

Wake services will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
