Inez Bracey

SOUTH BEND - Inez "Sis" Bracey, 87, was born August 10, 1922, to the late Lonzie O'Bannon Sr. and Clara Belle Fisher in Jackson, MS. She was the second eldest of three children. Inez received her education in the public schools of Jackson, MS. On April 17, 1943, she married Leslie Earl Bracey. To this union nine children were born. Inez accepted Christ in 1948 and was baptized by the late Reverend A.R. Burns in Hammond, IN. "Sis," as she was affectionately called, loved life, her family and her friends. Inez loved to cook. After 15 years, she retired from A.M. General as head cook and caterer. She never met a stranger, and would feed the world if she could. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leslie Earl Bracey Sr.; daughter, LaVerne Jenkins; son, Leslie Earl Bracey Jr.; parents, Lonzie O'Bannon Sr. and Clara Belle Fisher Berry; and by a sister, Edna Mae Davis. She leaves to cherish precious memories her children, Clara Watkins, Maggie (Archie) Fultz of Hammond, IN, Lonzie Bracey and Charles Bracey of South Bend, IN, Inez Bracey of Hammond, IN, Keith Bracey of Atlanta, GA, and Barbara Stokes of Detroit, MI; 26 grandchildren, 29 great-great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of loving friends and relatives. Funeral services for Mrs. Inez "Sis" Bracey will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 9, in Alford's Mortuary, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place at the chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary, where messages of condolence may be e-mailed to Alfordsmortuary@comcast.net, c/o the Bracey family.
