Harvey J. Brechtl, M.D.

Oct. 7, 1920 - Nov. 27, 2000

Harvey J. Brechtl, M.D., 80, formerly of Merrifield Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., died on Monday, Nov. 27, after an extended illness.

Harvey was born in West Allis, Wis., on Oct. 7, 1920, the son of Al and Clara Brechtl.

On July 7, 1948, Harvey married Bernadine (Carroll), who preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1995. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Brechtl.

Harvey served in the U.S. Navy after competing medical school at Marquette University. Dr. Brechtl was a respected and much loved physician in South Bend, Ind., for 40 years. He was a devout Catholic, and generously volunteered his services to the priests and nuns in the South Bend area.

Harvey and Bernadine's children are Carol (Jim) Dalglish of San Antonio, Texas, Karen Brechtl of South Bend, Joan (Phil) Richards of Indianapolis, Ind., Anne (Steven) Richmond of South Bend and Robert (Lorri) Brechtl of Osceola, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 29, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, in St. Pius X Church, 52553 N. Fir Road, Granger, Ind.
