SOUTH BEND - Helen S. Brokaw, 92, of
York Road, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in Healthwin Hospital.
Mrs. Brokaw retired in 1968 as a teacher after 38 years at Riley
High School. She was born Aug. 30, 1903, in Chicago and had lived
in the South Bend area since 1930, coming from Berwyn, Ill.
In 1947, in South Bend, as Helen Steinhauser,
she married Robert Brokaw. He died in 1957. She is survived by a
sister, Emma M. Knobloch of South Bend. Mrs. Brokaw was a
member of Emmaus Lutheran Church. She received a master's degree
in language from the University of Chicago.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday
in the church. Cremation will take place, with burial at St.
Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the
church.
