George W. Brown Sr.

March 4, 1932 - Nov. 4, 2008

SOUTH BEND - George W. Brown Sr., was born to the union of Viola Hannon and Robert Brown in Montgomery, Alabama. He served his country in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge in 1959. After retiring from the restaurant industry as a "Head Chef", he and his wife moved from Seaside, CA to South Bend. After joining Saints memorial Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Superintendent Carl J. Steen Sr., George had a midnight experience and accepted Jesus as he personal Savior. He exited the room saying, "Hey, my hands look new, my face looks new and all of ya'll look good to." What a night it was for all the family. Thank God for His saving power. George and Helen later joined the Greater Satin Matthew Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles King Sr. George "aka" Paw-Paw", as he was affectionately called, leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 50 years, Helen Brown; five sons, George (Lorett) Brown, Sheldon Brown, Leander (Lori) Brown, Sean (Stephanie) Hooker and Quentin Kelley; 12 grandchildren, Ramiah, Sergio, Tristan, Edward, Chris, Marc, Joy, Joshua, Janae, Victor, Shaqua, Deyanara; and five great-grandchildren, Xavier, Breonna, Brandon, Tajiana and Jaidyn. His church family, friends and a host of family members.

 

Services will be at noon Saturday Nov. 8 in Greater St. Matthew Church with burial following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Visitation will be one hour before services. Alford's Mortuary is handling arrangements.
