James W. Brown

GRANGER - James W. Brown, 80, of Timberland Drive, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Regency Place. Mr. Brown retired in 1978 from Bendix Corp. as design/product engineer in the aircraft landing gear department after 36 years of service. He was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Kansas City, Mo., and had lived in South Bend since 1943.

 

On June 28, 1943, in Grand Rapids, he married Phyllis E. Franke. She survives with a daughter, Judith W. Brown Richardson of LaPorte; a son, David M. of Mishawaka; and a sister, Jane Thurber of Sun City, Ariz. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bendix Senior Management Club, and University of Iowa Alumni Association, and was a charter member of Presbyterian Players. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and a volunteer for the blood bank and Meals On Wheels for many years.

 

Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Cremation will take place. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc. or any charity.
