Lyda "Maxine" Brown, 76, of Grape Road in Granger, Ind., passed away at 5:56 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, in her residence. Maxine was born on July 14, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., to Clay and Emily (Blackburn) Strasser. 

 

On Sept. 2, 1951, in South Bend, she married Ernest O. Brown. Maxine is survived by her husband, Ernest; sons, Raymond (Connie) Brown of Holt, Mich., Michael (Beverly) Brown of Tennessee, Gregory (Cathlene) Brown of South Bend, Kevin (Christal) Brown of Mishawaka, Ind., and Stanley (Cathy) Brown of South Bend; daughters, Diana Shea of Mishawaka, Katherine (Mitch) Williams of Canton, Ill., Karen (Scott) Blackford of Tennessee and Teresa (Carey) Wood of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers, Paul (Mary) Strasser of South Bend and Wayne (Sharon) Strasser of South Bend; sisters, Thelma Greenwood of South Bend, Mary (Al) Papczynski of Lakeville, Ind., and Ruth (Mel) Whitesell of South Bend; and by 43 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Arthur Strasser, Harold Strasser, Frank Strasser and Clay Strasser; a sister, Gladys Kintz; and by her grandson, Robert Brown.

 

Friends may visit at Chapel Hill Funeral Home today, Oct. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. in Northway Church of Christ, 19525 Auten Road, South Bend. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Maxine was a member of Northway Church of Christ and was formerly a cashier at K-Mart.
