William A. Bryant

Dec. 25, 1919 - March 15, 2001

The children of William A. Bryant will be holding a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, in the LaPorte F.O.P., Monroe Street, LaPorte, Ind. A potluck dinner will follow the service.

Mr. Bryant, 81, of 4556 McCarty Lane, Rochester, Ind., passed away on Thursday, March 15, in his residence. He was born on Dec. 25, 1919, in San Francisco, Calif., to Donald J. and Dorothy Stayton Bryant, who both preceded him in death. He was married to Jeannette F. Fisher on Feb. 6, 1953, in Buchanan, Mich. She preceded him in death on March 29, 1994.

Mr. Bryant was a police officer for 40 years, retiring as a captain with the LaPorte City Police. He was a fourth generation police officer. Mr. Bryant was active in the community. He was a member of the Community Christian Church, New Carlisle, Ind., where he was a past deacon of the church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, Battle of Normandy, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of Scottish Rite Lodge, South Bend, Ind., F&AM Terre Coupe #204 where he was a past master, New Carlisle, V.F.W., LaPorte, and the F.O.P. #54, LaPorte. He and his wife Jeannette also raised several foster children.

Mr. Bryant is survived by two daughters, Margo Layman and husband, Rick of Rochester, and Tami Ringer and husband, Jon of Leiters Ford, Ind.; two sons, Donald R. Bryant and wife, Mallory of New Carlisle, and Larry Bryant and wife, Ingrid of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald James Bryant and wife, Peggy of Jacksonville, Fla.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

The Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, was in charge of arrangements.
