Loretta Bukowski

SOUTH BEND - Loretta Bukowski, 90, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008. She was born on July 6, 1917, in South Bend, Indiana. Loretta was the daughter of Stella (Ludwiczak) and Marion Dabrowski.

 

She was married on July 2, 1938, to Mr. Louis Bukowski. Her husband Louis of 57 years died on October 17, 1995. She also lost an infant daughter, Carol Marie, in 1940. Loretta spent most of her married life as a homemaker and Mom. Over a period of eight years she did have a variety of part-time jobs including her last job with Ziker Cleaners and retired in 1978. Loretta was an active member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church. She was active in the Rosary Society, the Golden Cluster, K.I.T., and helped clean the church. She was also very active with the Daughters of Isabella, the Harvest House of St. Anthony and the Local 5 retiree's bingo group. She enjoyed playing cards and going to bingo.

 

Loretta is survived by a son, Louis Bukowski Jr., Mary Jane, daughter-in-law of Mishawaka, Indiana, and her daughters, Theresa Behar, Nelson, son-in-law of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Dr. Mary Ann Bukowski, Brad Gornick, son-in-law of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her grandchildren are Alison Behar Fenster, David Behar, Trent Stocking and Louie Stocking of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her great-grandchildren are Noah (6) and Leah (4) Fenster of Reston, Virginia, and Sienna (1) Behar from Virginia Beach, Virginia. A brother, Erwin Dombrowski, and a brother-in-law, Chester Bukowski and his wife, Adeline, also survive.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Isabella, c/o St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 South Scott Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
