Harriet T. Burgin

Harriet T. (Salvageot) Burgin, 86, of Millers Merry Manor, New Carlisle, Ind., died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, after an extended illness. Mrs. Burgin was born March 27, 1910, in Morganton, N.C. She retired March 1, 1975, from Indiana Bell where she was a matron for 20 years. She had lived in the South Bend area since 1952.

 

On Sept. 28, 1928, as Harriet Tolbert, she married Henry T. Salvageot, he passed away in 1942. On April 15, 1944, she married James E. Burgin, he also preceded her in death in 1967. Mrs. Burgin was a member of Lydick United Methodist Church and The Pioneers Club.

 

Surviving family members include, her son, Henry Salvageot and his wife Kathleen of South Bend; daughter, Mary McGalliard and husband James of Icard, N.C.; three granddaughters, Karen Trzaskowski, Debra Hannah and her husband Ken of South Bend and Paula Clark of North Carolina; 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William, with the Rev. Kevin Buckley of Lydick United Methodist Church officiating. Friends and relatives may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lydick United Methodist Church or Millers Merry Manor, New Carlisle, Ind. Welsheimer is in charge of arrangements.
