Jerry C. Burris

Oct. 13, 1931 - July 2, 2001

Jerry Charles Burris, 69, of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Osceola, Ind., passed away Monday, July 2, 2001, in Anchorage.

He was born October 13, 1931, in Defiance, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Emmett Burris of Osceola.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Dale Sommers of Osceola; three nephews and one niece and their spouses. Daniel and Michelle Sommers of South Bend, Ind., David and Christine Sommers of Pasco, Wash., Rebecca and Brian Eastling of North Webster, Ind., and Andrew and Michelle Sommers of Granger, Ind.; three great-nephews and three great-nieces; an aunt, Hazel Coy of Kokomo, Ind.; and his stepmother, Lena Sharrer of Nappanee, Ind.

Jerry graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1947. He served in the Army-Air Corps. He was a 50 year resident of Alaska. He worked as an aircraft mechanic for Alaska Airlines in Fairbanks and Wein Airlines in Anchorage for several years. He homesteaded in Fairbanks, Alaska in the 50's. He lived and worked all over his beloved Alaska. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He loved to play the concertina and often entertained his friends for hours with his music. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9 in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pastor Ray LaBorde, McCoy Memorial Baptist Church, Elkhart, will officiate the service. The service will be with military honors by the American Legion Post 308 of Osceola. There will be no visitation.
