Christine M. Burrows

Christine M. Burrows, 94, formerly of Tonti Street, died at 10:40 p.m. on Friday, March 7, in the home of her niece, Iris C. Beveridge, on Gartner Avenue, South Bend, Ind. Mrs. Burrows had been the secretary to the Oliver Estate for 42 years before retiring in 1973. She was born Oct. 25, 1902, in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, and had lived in South Bend since 1923, coming from Canada.

 

On Sept. 17, 1938, in South Bend, as Christine M. Beveridge, she married Harold E. ''Hank'' Burrows, who preceded her in death in 1968. She is survived by one brother, David Beveridge of Mishawaka, Ind; one niece; two nephews; seven great-nieces; six great-nephews; 16 great-great-nieces; 14 great-great-nephews, two great-great-great-nieces; three great-great-great-nephews; and her beloved friend of 59 years, Yolanda Hanley. Mrs. Burrows was a graduate of Baird Business School in Scotland, was a member of First United Methodist Church of South Bend and the National Historical Society, and was a longtime member of the Delta Theta Chi Sorority.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Ellwood K. Smith, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, or to the charity of donor's choice.
