Sister Alice Marie CSC, 83, of Saint Mary’s Convent died at 7:15 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Medical Center. She was born Alice Josephine Butler on July 15, 1898 in Anderson, Ind. and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, on March 7, 1918, after coming from Anderson. She was received as a novice on Jan. 6, 1919 and made her profession of vows on Jan. 6, 1921. Throughout her community life she served various capacities from teaching to administrative work.

 

Her assignments included the St. Mary’s Academy, St. Joseph Academy; St. Joseph High School, and St. Hedwig High School, all in South Bend; also St. Mary’s High School in Anderson, Bishop Noll High School, Hammond, as well as several Assignments in Illinois, Washington DC, Virginia, Utah and California. She also served in the business office of St. Joseph Medical Center here and St. John’s Hospital, Anderson. She resided at Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent from 1968 to 1981, when she came to St. Mary’s Convent.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Loretto Church and burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call Wednesday and until time of services Thursday at the St. Mary’s Convent Parlors, where a wake will be observed at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
