SOUTH BEND - Ross R. Butts, 89, of 56321 Armour Ave., Elkhart, formerly of South Bend, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday in his home after an illness. Mr. Butts retired in 1969 as a carpenter with Armour Construction Co., Elkhart. He was born Sept. 7, 1904, in Wolcottville, Ind., and has lived in the Elkhart area since 1969, moving from South Bend.
On May 14, 1924, he married Verna Marie Shellenberger. She survives with three daughters, Betty Mae Mroczkiewicz of North Liberty, Helen Ruth Puckett of Arlington, Texas, and Barbara Jean Armour of Elkhart; a son, Robert S. of South Bend; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Mr. Butts was a member of Robert Blum Lodge 278 I.O.O.F.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Elkhart County Hospice.

Entombment will be in Riverview Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, where a memorial services will be at 7 p.m. conducted by Robert Blum Lodge 278 IOOF.
