Robert O. Bye

March 26, 1920 - Jan. 3, 1999

Robert O. Bye, 78, of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, in Union Hospital, Terre Haute.

He was born on March 26, 1920, in Chisholm, Minn., to Ole and Nell Winn Bye.

Mr. Bye retired from J. T. Case in 1980. He served in the Air Force and Army from 1939 to 1954. He attended First Pentecostal Church in Sullivan, Ind., and was a member of Cayuga American Legion Post #263, the Greater Terre Haute Bowling Association for 30 years, was past president in 1977, and was a member of the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.

Mr. Bye is survived by his wife, Maudie Wilson Bye of Terre Haute; three daughters, Patricia Lindholm of South Bend, Ind., Carolyn Kuhajda of Terre Haute and Marilyn Abel of Sullivan, Ind.; four sons, James, Tommy and Gary Evinger, all of Terre Haute, and Kevin Bye of Clinton, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Cammie Smith of Sullivan, Ind., and Brenda Stelle of Woodlands, Texas; two stepsons, Jim Wilson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Charles Wilson of Pikeville, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bye was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes McKinney Evinger Bye, who died in 1995 after 35 years of marriage.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in the DeBaun Funeral Homes, Idaho Street Chapel, Terre Haute. Rev. John Elmore will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery where Cayuga American Legion Post #263 will conduct a graveside military service.
