Charles H. Byers

Charles H. Byers, 80, of Pasadena Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on Nov. 9, 1917, in South Bend, living here all of his life.

 

On July 3, 1941, in Wabash, Ind., he married Betty Callander, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Shirley (Duane) Arick of South Bend, Kathy (Michael) Fick of Plymouth Ind.; three sons, John (Beth) Byers of Duncan, S.C., C. Michael (Penny) Byers of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dan Byers of Denver Colo.; and by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David in 1989.

 

Mr. Byers retired in 1980 from Sears & Roebuck after 44 years of service, where he was a heating and plumbing and air conditioning engineer.

 

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 19, in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Hillside Missionary Church, 21567 Ireland Road, South Bend, with Rev. Kenneth J. Fetter officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Bible Society, to Gideons International or to the church.
