E. LeRoy Byrd

May 26, 1935 - March 20, 1999

 

E. LeRoy Byrd, 63, of Battell Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County.

 

LeRoy was born on May 26, 1935, in Elkhart, Ind., as the son of Elmer R. and Mary (Kolberg) Byrd. LeRoy lost his father, Elmer R. Byrd, earlier this year on Feb. 2, 1999. On Oct. 27, 1956, in Syracuse, Ind., LeRoy married the former Betty Jane Traster, who also preceded him in death on May 12, 1992.

 

He is also survived by his two sons, Richard L. (Lori) Byrd and Ronald R. Byrd, both of South Bend; LeRoy's mother, Mary L. Byrd of Mishawaka; two sisters, Janice (Pete) Davis and Myrna Thomas, both of Mishawaka; and by two brothers, Everett (Jane) Byrd of Frostproof, Fla., and Steven (Linda) Byrd of South Bend.

 

Mrs. Byrd worked at the Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation in Mishawaka from 1956 to 1969. From February 1970 to  October 1998 he was employed by Weaver Electric in Mishawaka as an electrician, before retiring in 1998. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 in Mishawaka.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, and one hour prior to services in the church.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, in the First Christian Church, 2511 E. 3rd. Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Teal Younce officiating. Burial will follow in chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osceola, Ind., where VFW Post 360 will conduct military rites.
