Elmer R. Byrd

MISHAWAKA - Elmer R. Byrd, 86, of West Battell Street, passed away after an illness at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, in his residence. Mr. Byrd was born on Oct. 29, 1912, in Frenchburg, Ky., as the son of the late Harlan and Martha (Sorrell) Byrd.

 

On Sept. 22, 1934, in Syracuse, Ind., he married the former Mary L. Kolberg, who survives. He is also survived by their children: two daughters, Janice (Pete) Davis and Myrna Thomas, both of Mishawaka, Ind., and three sons, Leroy (Joan) Byrd of Mishawaka, Everett (Jane) Byrd of Frostproof, Fla., and Steven (Linda) Byrd of South Bend, Ind.; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Ica Myrick of Fairmont, Ill., Opal Dausman of Mishawaka and Damie Knisley of Syracuse, Ind.; and by a brother, Robert Byrd of Syracuse. Mr. Byrd was employed by the former Wheel-A-Brator-Frye for 33 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Nappanee, Ind.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5th, in the funeral home, with Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osceola, Ind.
