Bert W. Bystry

Bert W. Bystry, 77, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2001, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bystry was born on November 20, 1923, in South Bend and was a lifelong resident. He retired on January 1, 1986, from A.M. General, after 15 years of service. He was also employed with the former Studebaker Corporation for 24 years.

 

On June 14, 1952, in Holy Cross Church, he married, Gertrude M. Kujawa, who survives. Also surviving is his mother, Constance Bystry of South Bend, IN, two sisters, Mildred Gromski of South Bend, IN, Theresa Widawski of South Bend, IN, and by a brother, Casimir Bystry of South Bend, IN. A brother, Ziggy Bystry, preceded him in death.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Corpus Christi Church. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery, where members of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357 will conduct military services. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m., Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Bystry was an usher and a member of Corpus Christi Parish. He was the Chairman of U.A.W. Local 5 Retirees, Acting Chairman of U.A.W. Legion Three Area One Retirees, a member of St. Adalbert Harvest House, St. Joseph's Young Mens Society, Polish National Alliance #83, American Legion Pulaski Post #357, where he was the former Sergeant of Arms and a W.W. II Army Veteran.
