Sister M. Martina Caine CSC, 74, of St. Mary’s Convent, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday in the Convent. She was born March 8, 1910 in Fitchburg. Wis. As Catherine Elizabeth Caine, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross, at St. Mary’s on Feb. 14, 1940, coming from Oregon, Wis. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1940 and made her profession of vows two years later.

 

Sister Claire was a registered nurse and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, in Madison, Wis., in 1931. She received her certificate in pediatric nursing from St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Ill. in 1943 and served as supervisor in the pediatrics department of St. Joseph Hospital from 1946 to 1951. She also served in pediatrics departments in hospitals IN Anderson, Ind. and Cairo, Ill. After 27 years she was assigned to the nursing staff at Saint Mary’s Convent in 1959 and was relieved of active duty in 1974. She then served as assistant to the nursing staff until her retirement due to ill health. She is survived by a sister, Mary Clark, and a brother, Frank Caine, both of Wisconsin.

 

The time of services, which will be held Friday will be announced later. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary’s Parlors where a wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m.. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. The Hickey Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
