Sister M. Louis Irene CSC, 100, of St. Mary’s Convent died at 12:37 p.m. Saturday in the convent. She was born May 9, 1886, as Margaret Callahan in Lanesboro, Minn. On Feb. 6, 1920 she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, and was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1920. On Aug. 15, 1922 she professed her vows. Sister Irene taught on bothe the secondary and the collegiate levels. Locally she taught at St. Mary’s Academy, St. Joseph Academy, St. Joseph High School and St. Mary’s College. She also taught in Ogden, Utah; Fresno Calif.; Woodstock, Ill. and Anderson, Ind. She resided at Our Lady of Hungary Convent in South Bend from 1966 to 1983. In 1983 she was assigned st St. Mary’s Convent where she resided for the remainder of her life. She is survived by a sister, Sister Marie de Lourdes SSJ of St. Louis, Mo.

 

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto and burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call today and Monday in the St. Mary’s Convent Parlors, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. today.
