Mary L. Callander

Mary L. Callander, 95, of East 6th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Mary was born on Dec. 8, 1907, in Otis, Ind., as the daughter of the late Joseph and Constance (Kusch) Shifkowski. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Sylvester Shifkowski, and one grandson, Michael Callander.

On Feb. 1, 1929, as the former Mary L. Shifkowski, she married Forrest Callander in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1985. Mary is survived by one daughter, Gloria Balogh of Mishawaka; and one son, Forrest (Lois) Callander of Mishawaka; one stepdaughter, Irene McClure of Shipshewana, Ind.; four grandchildren, Dan Balogh, Susan Pontius, Heather Anderson and Steve Callander; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Helen Shreve of LaPorte, Ind., and Agnes "Peg" France of Chesterton, Ind. Mary was employed by Uniroyal in Mishawaka, and was a loving wife and homemaker.

Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, and may also call from noon to 2 p.m. today, March 4, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today with Rev. Erv Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Ind.
