Sister M. Doloretta Cannon CSC

Sister M. Doloretta (Mary Margaret Cannon), CSC, 81, was born in Oakland, Calif., May 20, 1921, to the late Patrick J. Cannon and Margaret P. Meehan Cannon. She was next to the youngest of a family of eight children. She is survived by her sister, Dorothea Guthmiller of Haywood, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Joe Cannon of Napa, Calif. Sister is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Sister Doloretta entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1941, made her first profession in 1944, and final profession Aug. 15, 1947. Her early education was done in California. She earned her BA major in history from Saint Mary of Wasatch, 1953, and her master's in U.S. History from the University of Portland, 1964. She earned a Master's Equivalency from Cal State, Long Beach, 1977, in counseling and guidance for secondary schools.

 

Sister began her teaching career in the elementary grades in St. Paul's School, Los Angeles, Calif., then moved into junior high at St. Matthew's School, San Mateo, Calif. She continued in junior high at St. Mary of the Wasatch Academy, Salt Lake City, Utah, St. Anne's School, Las Vegas, Nev., and then returned to Utah as supervisor/teacher at the Cathedral School. Her next assignment was to teach religion and math at St. Teresa's Academy, then she taught math at Bishop Kelly High School, both schools in Boise, Idaho. She was senior high math teacher, St. Joseph's School, Ogden, Utah, a supervisor in Santa Ana, Calif., and returning to Utah, guidance and religion teacher at Judge Memorial Catholic High School, Salt Lake City. Sister was certified in chaplaincy from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. She was in pastoral care at Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah, St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Boise, Idaho, and Holy Cross Medical Center, Mission Hills, Calif.

 

Sister Doloretta retired to Saint Mary's and was active in the Ministry of Prayer at Saint Mary's Convent until her death.
