Sister John Marie CSC, 93, of St. Mary’s Convent, died Wednesday evening in the convent. She was born on Sept. 4, 1878 in Chicago and as Jean Matilda Carpenstein, entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1926. She made4 her profession of vows on Jan. 6, 1929. She was a certified public health nurse prior to entering the congregation, and served in the Philipine Islands as a social worker. She organized the School of Nursing at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson, Ind. in 1909.Her community assignments were at St. Mary’s, St. John’s Hospital, and Our Saciour’ Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill. She had resided at the convent since 1960.

 

Friends may call in St. Mary’s Convent parlors, where a rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. today. Services wiil be at 11 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s.
