Arthur B. Carpenter

Arthur B. Carpenter, 85, of Melrose Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, in his residence. He was born in Elkhart, Ind., on March 22, 1916, to Robert B. and Mary Ruth (Hunt) Carpenter.

 

On Dec. 20, 1942, he married the former Betty Eaton, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Mary Nemeth of Mishawaka, Ind.; a son, Bruce Jr. (Carolyn) of South Bend; four grandchildren, Shari Nemeth, Ken (Melinda) Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter and Kelly Carpenter; a great-grandson, Baylee Carpenter; a sister, Roberta Younkin of New Carlisle, Ind.; and by a nephew, David (Barb) Warstler of Illinois.

 

Arthur worked for many years for the Bendix Corporation. He was a member of the First Brethren Church of Ardmore, UAW retired workers, Masonic Lodge #45 F&AM, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.

 

Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 20, in the FOREST G. HAY FUNERAL HOME, where a Masonic lodge service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in the First Brethren Church of Ardmore, with calling one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Arthur Carpenter may be made to his church.
