Joseph William Carrico

Joseph William Carrico, 63, residing on Garden Castle Road, Palmetto, FL, formerly of Lakeville and South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2005, in the Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, FL.

 

Mr. Carrico was born on January 26, 1941, in Lakeville, to the late Leonard "Alo" and Ruth E. (Truitt) Carrico. He had resided in the Imperial Lakes Golf Community in Palmetto, FL, for the past two years.

 

Mr. Carrico graduated from Lakeville High School Class of 1959 where he served as class president all four years. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he became an electrical engineer for Jet Aircraft. Joe was honorably discharged in 1963. Joe organized the Lakeville Chapter of the Jaycees. Joe retired in 2001 after 38 years as an electrical engineer with AT&T.

 

Mr. Carrico is survived by one sister, Mary Lou (Clark) Lonergan of South Bend; and two brothers, John P. (Susan) Carrico of South Bend and Patrick A. (Sandra) Carrico of South Bend. Joe truly loved his family, especially his 11 nieces and nephews, his 16 great-nephews, and four great-great-nieces and nephews. They were the joy of his life. Affectionately known as "U.J." or "Uncle Joe" by all, he was an avid golfer and played nearly every day. He was active in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto, made great friends in his golf community and will be missed by everyone there.

 

A memorial Mass was held on Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Palmetto, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:45 p.m. Friday, January 21, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lakeville, IN.

 

Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 5:00--8:00 p.m. Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 South Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joseph William Carrico may be donated to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
