Margaret Carrington

Margaret Carrington, 89, of Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka, formerly of South Bend, died at 6 a.m. Friday in her residence. Mrs. Carrington retired as a teacher at the former Oliver School in 1975 after 20 years service. She was born Feb. 5, 1908, in South Bend and had lived in Indianapolis as a child until moving back to South Bend in 1925. 9, 1932, in Indianapolis she married Herman L. Carrington, who survives along with a daughter, Alice C. Nagarajan of Indianapolis, a son, Michael D. Carrington of South Bend; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister Dorothy Neilson of New Castle, Del.

 

Mrs. Carrington was a 1955 graduate of St. Mary's College and received her Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1962. She had also attended Butler University in Indianapolis and Indiana University at South Bend. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, Chapter X of PEO, Progress Club, a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church of South Bend, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and for many years ran the Candy Stripers program at the hospital.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the mausoleum chapel of Riverview Cemetery with Dr. Ellwood Smith of First United Methodist Church of South Bend officiating. Entombment will follow. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
