SOUTH BEND - Lawrence Edward Carter, 85, passed away in
the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend, on Friday,
April 25, 2008. Mr. Carter retired in 1988 as a senior accountant
at the University of Notre Dame after 20 years. He was born
January 25, 1923, in Portsmouth, VA, as the son of George and
Louie (Sawyer) Carter, and had lived in South Bend/Mishawaka
since 1968.
On November 18, 1972, he married the former
Irene M. Pawlowski of Mishawaka, who died in 1984.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur
Carter, and a sister, Florence Jarvis. Surviving are four
nieces and nephews. Mr. Carter was a 1950 Phi Beta Kappa graduate
of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, a Navy
veteran of both WW II and Korea, a former Brother in the
Congregation of Holy Cross, Notre Dame.
As per Lawrence's wishes, there will be no
visitation and no services. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street,
Mishawaka, has been entrusted in handling the arrangements. A
private burial will take place. Memorial contributions may be
made to the charity of the donor's choice.
