Mara J. Cashen

Mara J. (Peterson) Cashen, 83, of S. 36th Street, South Bend, Ind., died Christmas morning, Dec. 25, in the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mara retired from WNIT as a bookkeeper for several years, and previously worked at American Bank downtown South Bend and at South Bend Screw Products. Mara was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew, and was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and St. Mary's Academy. She was born June 16, 1918, in South Bend, to Clarence and Lydia (Jones) Peterson, who preceded her in death.

 

On Oct. 3, 1963, in St. Matthew Cathedral, she married Sylvester W. Cashen, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Peggy (Randy) Barhahn of Elkhart, Ind.; two sons, Steve (Tammie) Cashen of California and Mike (Karla) Cashen of Granger, Ind.; and by seven grandchildren.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Cathedral of St. Matthew. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, 289-1000.
