SOUTH BEND - Jeane I. Champagne, 77, of 54610 Northern Ave., died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness. Mrs. Champagne was born March 24, 1917, in Rochester, Mich., and lived in South Bend for 15 years.
In 1950, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., as Jeane Van Horn, she married August Champagne. He died in 1982. She is survived by a daughter, Marcia Kowalchuk of Novi, Mich.; a son, Calvin of South Bend; five grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Van Horn of New Port Richey, Fla.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Cremation will take place with burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Cheboygan, Mich. There will be no visitation. Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
