Lovell L. Chastain

SOUTH BEND -- Lovell L. "Bud" Chastain, 86, of Miami Road, South Bend, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away at 11:15 p.m. Monday, January 3, in Southfield Village, South Bend.

 

Mr. Chastain was born on February 17, 1918, in Mitchell, Ind., and resided in the Michiana area his lifetime.

 

On October 2, 1965, in South Bend, he married the former Mildred M. Eberly, who survives.

 

Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Lynn G. (Robert) Kline of South Bend; and a stepson, Ronald L. (Virginia) Benninghoff of Newton, Kansas; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; a sister, Garland I. (Kenneth) Lyons of Bristol, Ind.; a brother, Raymond L. Chastain of Mitchell, Ind.; two nieces, Connie Erb of Belton, Mo., and Jill Davis of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a nephew, Jeffrey Chastain of Indianapolis.

 

Mr. Chastain retired from the Elconn Meat Packing Company in Elkhart after many years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Elkhart, Moose Lodge of Elkhart, and was a member of Central Christian Church in Elkhart, Ind.

 

The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to Feed the Hungry, 530 East Ireland Road, South Bend, IN 46614.

 

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 7, in Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 8, in the funeral home, with Rev. Delron Shirley officiating. Burial to follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery.

 

The Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Chastain family.
