John J. Chikar

SOUTH BEND - John J. Chikar, 93, of Norwalk, CT, formerly
of South Bend, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10,
2008, in Notre Dame Convalescent Home, Norwalk. Mr. Chikar was
born on July 20, 1914, in South Bend, to Joseph and Katherine (Wishin)
Chikar. He retired in 1980 from Bendix where he was employed for
25 years. John was a member of Bowlers Country Club and the
Bendix Management Club.
On July 16, 1938, in South Bend, he married
the former Elsie M. Horvath. She died on February 11,
2001. John was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Hoffman;
and three brothers, George, Edward and Joseph. Surviving are a
daughter, Kathryn (Joseph) Jimenez of Norwalk, CT; two
sisters-in-law, Anne Marie Chikar of South Bend and Frances
Chikar of Angier, NC; a brother-in-law, Leo Murphy of
Medina, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, in St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-6 Sunday, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Church.
