Chester Vincent Chrapliwy Sr., 80, of Healthwin Nursing Center, formerly of South 34th Street, South Bend, Indiana, entered into the kingdom of GOD on May 2, 2006. He leaves behind a rich legacy of courage, family values, compassion and, most of all, a sense of humor.

Mr. Chrapliwy was born in South Bend, IN, on July 19, 1925, the last of seven children of Peter and Theresa (Kwapinski) Chrapliwy. Educated in the South Bend school system he was a tool & die maker most of his life. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and returned in 1945 after serving in the European Theater.

On February 20, 1946, he married the former Joyce Shidaker (now Kinser) and together they had three children, C.V. Chrapliwy Jr. and wife, Velinda of Eden, NC, Cynthia D. Chrapliwy of Mishawaka, IN, and William Chrapliwy and wife, Leslie of Cassopolis, MI. He leaves behind five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Stella; and brothers, Joseph, John and Walter Chrapliwy.

He is survived by brothers, Peter of Texas and Frank of New Jersey.

Born and raised Catholic, he asked that there be no formal funeral or any visitation prior to his cremation. He leaves behind his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as living messages to a time he will not see.
