Ted Cichonski

Nov. 6, 1926 - April 9, 2001

Ted Cichonski, 74, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Monday, April 9, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1926, in Armstrong Creek, Wis. He had been a resident of the South Bend area for 35 years, coming from Chicago, Ill. Mr. Cichonski moved to South Bend from Chicago where he had been the controller of the Reserve Insurance Company to work for Associates as a vice president of Emmco Insurance. Mr. Cichonski retired in 1982 from the American National Bank, South Bend, where he served as the vice president.

On Sept. 27, 1947, he married Shirley Tipton, who survives. Along with his wife of 53 years, he is also survived by two daughters, Veronica Niedbalski and Terese Manuszak, both of South Bend; five grandchildren, Vincent (Toni) Niedbalski of South Bend, Ben Niedbalski of Ashland, Wis., Jessica Niedbalski of New Orleans, La., and Jake and Jocelyn Manuszak, both of South Bend; one great-grandchild, Mallory Niedbalski of South Bend; four sisters, Marie Panuncialman, Rose Przegienda, Sue Vitor and Estelle Griffin, all of Chicago; one brother, Walter Cichonski of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ted Cichonski Jr., and by two brothers, Joe and Cassimer "Casey" Cichonski. Mr. Cichonski was very beloved father to all of his children.

Mr. Cichonski was a member of St. Hedwig Parish, Holy Name Society of St. Hedwig, Achievement Forum, and the Polish National Alliance. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration after attending Spencerian College, Milwaukee, Michigan College of Mining and Technology and Northwestern University. Mr. Cichonski served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 11, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a combined parish and Achievement Forum Rosary will take place at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with Rev. Leonard Chrobot officiating. Burial will take place at Armstrong Creek, Wis., at a later date.
