MISHAWAKA - Elsie L. Claeys, 86, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, in Elkhart Hospice House. Elsie was born on January 26, 1924, in Mishawaka, to Edmond and Emma (De Loof) De Bruyne. She was preceded in death her parents and by a stepbrother, Camiel De Volder. On July 20, 1957, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as the former Elsie De Bruyne, she married Felix "Phil" J. Claeys, who preceded her in death on August 12, 1983. Surviving is a son, Richard "Rick" (Cyndi Packer) Claeys of Mishawaka. Elsie was always a very kind and gracious person. She was a friend to all who met her. She was One of the Best. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 27, from 3 to 7 p.m., with wake prayers at 6 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 28, at 10 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum, Granger. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
