Hugh R. Clark

Mr. Hugh R. Clark, 84, of Hollywood Boulevard, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 12:25 a.m. on Monday, April 3, in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Clark was born on April 19, 1915, in Sullivan, Ind., and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

 

On Aug. 17, 1935, in Mishawaka, Ind., he married Burnette Turley, who preceded him in death in July 1973. On May 19, 1974, he married Elsie Bonnell, who also preceded him in death in July 1994.

He is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Chet) Leda of South Bend, Goldie Martin of Bruceton, Ind., and Ruth Barton of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; three step-daughters, Barbara Snipe of Elkhart, Ind., Virginia (Jerry) Wise of Mishawaka and Shirley La Croix of Chapel Hill, Tenn.; two sons, Robert (Marilyn) Clark of South Bend and Paul Clark of Lakeville, Ind.; two stepsons, Gary Bonnell of Roscoe, Ill., and Larry Bonnell of St. Charles, Ill.; a sister, Dorothy McGean of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and by 29 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren. Mr. Clark retired in 1980 from the South Bend Street Department.

 

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice. The Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend heartfelt sympathy to the Clark family.
