Margaret Mabel Clark

Mrs. Margaret Mabel Clark, 92, 220 E. Dunn Road of New Carlisle, Ind., died Monday, July 25, 2005, in Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle, Ind. She was born May 4, 1913, in LaPorte, Indiana, to the late Oscar Swanson and the late Charlotte (Morehead) Swanson. Mrs. Clark was a native of LaPorte, Indiana, and moved to South Bend, Indiana, in 1986.

 

She was married on July 8, 1931, in LaPorte, Indiana, to William Carl "Bill" Clark, who preceded her in death on February 24, 1978. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and was a seamstress employed by Levines Boston Store in LaPorte for 10 years. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the East Galena Extension Homemakers, and an active member of the Democratic Party in Galena Township. When she moved to South Bend, she became a member of the St. Joseph County Women's Democratic Club and was a member of Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church.

 

Her hobbies were knitting afghans for the family while watching for a Cubs win and a Notre Dame victory. Then there were Bulls basketball games and Bears football. When the high school basketball season started she was always at the games with her children.

 

She is survived by her four daughters, Charlotte (Robert) Miller of Boonville, IN, Mary J. (Jim) Reese of Holbrook, Ariz., Corrine "Connie" (Wes) Humphrey of Globe, Ariz., and Margaret "Peg" McGilvra of South Bend, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, Ron Miller, Linda LeMasters, Cathy Miller, David Reese, Rebecca Young, Christine Reese, Michael Krause, Lorinda Ohnesorge, Lisa Blackford, James Krause, Christopher Krause, Jonathon Krause and Kellie McGilvra; 22 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carl "Bill" Clark; both parents; sister, Florence Downing; brother, J. William Swanson; and foster brother, Edward Kenney.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2005. Funeral service will be in the Haverstock Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, with Rev. Joan Kaiser officiating. Burial will be at Heckman Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rolling Prairie Methodist Church or to the Miller's Merry Manor Activity Fund in New Carlisle, Indiana.
