Warren G. "Whitey" Clark, 83, of Parkview Place, South Bend, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in Memorial Hospital following an illness. Mr. Clark was born Nov. 17, 1920 in North Liberty, Ind., to the late Vernon and Blanche (Schoenbeck) Clark and was a lifetime area resident.

 

On Aug. 29, 1942, in Crown Point, Ind., he married Janis I. Bradfield, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Scott (Janice) Clark of South Bend; three grandchildren, Courtney (Dave) Gersey, Katie Clark and Ian Clark, all of South Bend; five great-grandchildren, Trenton and Bailey Gersey, Taylor and Donovan Carpenter, and Hayley Clark, all of South Bend; four step-grandchildren, Heather Clark of North Manchester, Ind., Bryan Clark of North Liberty, Jeff (Karen) Veatch of Walkerton, Ind., and Shelly Bender of Elkhart, Ind.; three step-great-grandchildren, Braydon Hudson of North Manchester and Loren Veatch and Heidi Bjoraas, both of Elkhart; and a step-great-great-granddaughter, Makenzie Anderson of Elkhart; and a brother, Fred Williams of Michigan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerrianne Veatch in 2002, and two great-grandsons, Shawn Bagarus and Leilan Carpenter.

 

Whitey retired as an engineer for the Bendix Corporation. During his employment with Bendix he lived and worked in Brazil for three years and Mexico for four years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was also the neighborhood fix-it man and was always willing to help no matter what the problem, how difficult the project was, or how long it would take.

 

Funeral services for Whitey were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. David Hendricks of Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren officiating. Entombment followed at Riverview Cemetery. Friends were able to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday in the funeral home.
