Herbert Clayton, Jr.

Herbert ''Red'' Clayton, Jr., 65, of East Donald Street, South Bend, Ind., died after an illness at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in his residence. He was born on May 1, 1931, in Paterson, N.J., and had lived in South Bend since 1952, coming from Key West, Fla.

 

On Dec. 23, 1951, in Wayland, Mich., he married Maryrose A. Leisure, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Virginia A. Clayton and Candace M. Spillman, both of South Bend; four sons, Michael H. Clayton of Hobart, Ind., William J. Clayton, Herbert Clayton, III, and Kelly G. Clayton, all of South Bend; his mother, Ruth Clayton of Susanville, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Hewett, also of Susanville, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and by a great-grandson. Mr. Clayton retired on July 1, 1996, from E.W.I./South Bend Stamping after 15 years of service. He had also been a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9820.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday. Burial will be in Ferrisville Cemetery.
