Joan M. Cleghorn

BENZONIA - Joan M. Cleghorn, 81, of Benzonia, MI, died Saturday evening at The Maples in Frankfort. She was born September 19, 1928, in South Bend, IN, to Howard and Theursel Kehoe. On April 4, 1947, in South Bend, IN, she married Delbert W. Cleghorn, who survives. She is also survived by her children, Larry (Betty) of Woodbridge, VA, Nancy (Larry) Bowman of Edwardsburg, Donald of N. Augusta, S.C., Gail (John) Rill of Tuscon, AZ, and Mark (Brenda) of Chandler, AZ; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Robert) Boepple; one brother, Howard (Ethel); and "adopted" children, Dave and Vernie Hagen. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Janice, brother, Jack, and one grandson, Matthew. Joan moved to Benzonia from Edwardsburg in 1984. She was a homemaker, member of First Congregational Church, Benzonia, and was an active volunteer at the Alzheimer's and American Cancer Society fundraising events. Visitation for friends and family will take place on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at First Congregational Church in Benzonia from noon until 2 pm. A funeral service honoring her life will begin at 2 p.m., with Pastor Daniel Furman officiating. Memorial contributions in Joan's honor may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or to The First Congregational Church in Benzonia.
