Clara M. Clements

SOUTH BEND - Services for Clara M. Clements, 89, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, who died at 8 a.m. Monday in the nursing home, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, where a rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. and parish wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, Priests of Holy Cross Mission Center or Sisters of Holy Cross Ministry With the Poor Fund, Bertrand Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

Mrs. Clements retired as secretary for Catholic Boy-Miss, Knights of the Altar and Confraternity of Lourdes, all of Priests of Holy Cross. She also was a former billing clerk for Tucker Freight Lines. She was born July 19, 1905, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. On June 2, 1924, in South Bend, as Clara M. Scheibelhut, she married Alfred C. Bill. He died Jan. 25, 1950. On Feb. 22, 1965, in South Bend, she married Walter L. Clements. He died July 24, 1975. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn M. Strebinger and Sister M. Clare Alfred, CSC, both of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Susanne Degan of Goshen, N.Y.; a son, Rev. Thomas L. Bill, CSC, of Portland, Ore.; two stepsons, Walter C. Clements of Chicago and Robert Clements of South Bend; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and was a eucharistic minister, both of the church, and a member of Circle of Mercy, Legion of Mary and Bar Auxiliary of St. Joseph County. She also was past president of Lay Family of Holy Cross and Parents Club of Central Catholic High School.
