Jerry L. Clingenpeel

SOUTH BEND - Mr. Jerry L. Clingenpeel, 64, of Johnson Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 9:39 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital.

 

Mr. Clingenpeel was born on Sept. 26, 1938, in Plymouth, Ind., and had resided in the South Bend area since 1982, coming from Port Richey, Fla. He had lived in Port Richey for 12 years, and prior to that he had lived in South Bend.

 

Mr. Clingenpeel was preceded in death by his father, Lenden H. Clingenpeel on May 11, 1992; a sister, Phyllis J. Sherrod on Dec. 24, 1999; and by a brother, James L. Clingenpeel on Feb. 3, 1991.

 

On Sept. 7, 1963, in Osceola, Ind., he married the former Carol A. Thompson, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Frances E. Clingenpeel of New Carlisle, Ind.; two daughters, LuAnn (John) Phillips of Mishawaka, Ind., and LaRayne (Patrick) McGahan of Hudsonville, Mich.; and by a son, Lawrence A. Clingenpeel of South Bend. Jerry is also survived by five loving grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, and he often spoke of his love for his grandbabies.

 

Mr. Clingenpeel retired in February 2000 from Telecommunications after many years of service. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, and was proud to have served this great country and often spoke of the pride he had for the military.

 

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the funeral home. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Lamar Crumbley and Pastor Michael Reniger.

 

Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty, Ind.

 

The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the charity of donor's choice.
