Herbert J. Closson, 57, of 1312 California Ave., died at 2:25 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Clossen retired in 1980 from the St. Joseph County Highway Department where he was a truck driver.

He was born Aug. 17, 1928 in New Haven, Ind., and had lived in South Bend the past 20 years, coming from Decatur, Ind.

On Feb. 8, 1952 in Decatur, he married Corinne Steigmeyer, who survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Becky and Debbie Closson, both of South Bend; two sons, Rick and Michael, both of South Bend; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Joanne Smith and Marilyn Bodos, both of South Bend, Sharon King of Bluffton, Ind. and Nancy Clossen of Indianapolis; and two brothers, Robert of Bluffton and William of Riverside, Calif.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
