Barbara J. Coder, 68, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, April 26, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. She was born on Jan. 27, 1932, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Elmer and Lotti (Harkins) Schlundt, both of whom preceded her in death.

 

In 1950, as Barbara J. Schlundt, she married John A. Coder, who preceded her in death in June of 1969. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linn Ross; and by a brother, Carl Schlundt.

Mrs. Coder is survived by five daughters, Janet (Christopher) Pejza of Plymouth, Ind., Nancy (Darel) Bangel of West Lafayette, Ind., Gail (Harley) Chalk of Michigantown, Ind., Christine (Scott) Miller of Plymouth and Kathleen (Fred) Johndrow of South Bend, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, Tracy (Charlie) Ross Cox, Craig (Karen) Ross, Melissa Pejza, J.P. (Ann) Fockler, Amber, Sara, Joshua and Andrew Bangel, Chelsea and Alex Chalk, Kaitlin and Ken Miller, and Abigail and Devin Johndrow; five great-grandchildren, Cody, Colten and Carson Cox, Ashley Ross and Makayla Fockler; a son-in-law, Jerry (Donna) Ross of Plymouth; a sister, Joyce Pickens of South Bend; a brother, Allen (Jeannine) Schlundt of South Bend; a niece, Jean Park; and a nephew, Jim Pickens.

 

Mrs. Coder retired in 1995 from the South Bend Drug Company. She was a member of The People's Church and Moose Lodge #58, South Bend.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home Chapel, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with Rev. David Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, and from two hours prior to services on Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization, 711 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617.
