Marjorie Cody

SOUTH BEND - Marjorie "Marge" Cody, 77, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Plymouth and South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at St. John's Hospice, Springfield. Marge was born on April 12, 1932, the daughter of Claude and Bessie Dague Miller. She was married to Frank Serf and later, William F. Cody, they both preceded her in death. Marge earned an Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences from Lincoln Land Community College and worked as a Respiratory Therapist at St. Joseph's Medical Center in South Bend, IN, which later evolved into her working as a home care therapist. Previous to that she also worked for many years as a waitress at Top of the Arch in Springfield, IL. Marge was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Springfield, IL, and a former parishioner of St. Michael in Plymouth, IN. She had volunteered as a 4-H leader for many years in Springfield, IL. Marge was a voracious reader and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting and music events. Marge was a very kind and loving woman of deep faith who will be missed by many. She is also preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Harry Brundige; and her son Claude Szewczykowski. Marge is survived by her children, Ann (Kent) Janes of Springfield, John and Jack Cody both of South Bend, IN, Jane Cody- Evans of Virden, IL and William "Bill" (Micky) Cody of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren, Zach, Matt, and Kate Janes all of Springfield, and Kristen Sikorski of South Bend, IN; her siblings, Joanne Henderson of Plymouth, IN and Dr. Neal Long of Deland, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:30 - 6:30 pm on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:30. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Christ the King, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, IL, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant. An additional visitation will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 pm on Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel in Plymouth, IN. A ceremony will begin at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 3000 Kelly Lane, Springfield, IL 62707; St. John's Hospice, 800 E.
